4pm to 10pm: Cinco De Mayo Kickoff Party with NEWSED at Number Thirty-Eight
Number Thirty-Eight is kicking off the CINCO de Mayo weekend in a huge way with a full evening of live music, festive dancers, special food and drink menu and big prize giveaways. Proceeds of the event will directly benefit NEWSED, the organization responsible for producing the Cinco De May Festival at Civic Center Park. NEWSED’s primary focus has been to solve long-term economic problems in disadvantaged communities by securing and coordinating resources for neighborhood revitalization, developing needed shopping areas and services, fostering minority and neighborhood business ownership, job retention and creation, increasing home ownership and affordable rental opportunities, neighborhood organizing and hosting cultural events and activities that showcase the neighborhood’s predominately Chicano/Mexicano population. Get your Chihuahua’s dolled up and decked out for the Number Thirty-Eight and JAMMIN’ 101.5 Chihuahua Fashion show. This is a pet friendly event to showcase Denver’s cutest and most fashionable Chihuhua’s. SLiM (JAMMIN’ 101.5 Afternoon Show) will host a fashion show with a grand prize of $250 cash, plus gift cards and pet supplies. Plus, Number Thirty-Eight will be featuring a special menu and drink deals to celebrate the Cinco De Mayo weekend. Come Celebrate Culture at this year’s Cinco De Mayo Festival, produced by NEWSED Community Development Corporation. NEWSED is a nonprofit which has served the Denver Community since 1973, promoting the economic success of underserved populations in the seven-county Denver metro area through community development with a focus on affordable housing, small businesses and asset creation.
The Cinco De Mayo festival is all about bringing people together and highlighting the rich beauty and tradition of the Latino culture.
The festival is a free event featuring 3 stages of live music and dance performances, a wide variety of vendors, including local food and crafts
Plus – Chihuahua Races sponsored by Jammin’ 101.5, a Taco Eating Contest, Lowrider Car Show, and a Community Parade that winds its way through Downtown Denver.

11am to 3pm, JAMMIN’ 101.5 Chihuahua Races at Cinco de Mayo Festival, Civic Center Park
The JAMMIN’ 101.5 Chihuahua Races is a tournament with multiple heats of 64 chihuahuas! Your chihuahua will compete to advance to the final race. The Chihuahuas will race 4 at a time. The winning Chihuahua from each heat will advance to the next race. One Chihuahua will win the Grand Prize and be deemed the JAMMIN’ CHIHUAHUA champion.
Register your Chihuahua below and JAMMIN’ 101.5 will notify you by email to let you know if your chihuahua is registered for the race. Only 64 dogs will be registered, so don’t wait! Upon Check-in from noon-1:30pm on May 8th at Civic Center Park, you will be given a race packet with your chihuahua’s race number, and you will need to sign a waiver form for your dog’s ability to compete. The winning Chihuahua will win $500 cash, $250 Pet Supply Gift Card and a Trophy!
